The historic Christmas market and the “Mainzer WinterZeit” markets

When the scent of mulled wine, roasted almonds and fir trees wafts through the streets, Mainz is transformed into a magical Christmas city. From November 26, 2026, the popular “Mainz WinterZeit” markets will open their doors – on Schillerplatz, in the Hopfengarten, on the station forecourt and in the romantic castle courtyard. They are accompanied by the traditional Historic Christmas Market on the cathedral squares and the Neuwintermarkt on Neubrunnenplatz.

A sea of lights, scents and sounds – let yourself be enchanted by the lovingly designed stalls offering a variety of handmade gifts, delicious treats and warming drinks.

Historic Christmas market at the cathedral

The historic Christmas market at the cathedral is the heart of the Advent season in Mainz. An impressive network of lights spans the festively decorated stalls, bathing the square in a warm glow and creating an incomparable atmosphere. Traditional handicrafts, regional specialties and the scent of mulled wine and gingerbread await you here – a place where Christmas magic comes alive.

“Mainzer WinterZeit” market on the Schillerplatz

The “Mainzer WinterZeit” market on Schillerplatz invites you to linger and relax. Here, cozy winter flair meets culinary variety: warming drinks, fine snacks and an atmospheric ambience make the square at the Mainz carnival fountain the perfect meeting place for friends and family.

“Mainzer WinterZeit” market at the hop garden

The Hopfengarten is transformed into a cozy winter oasis at the end of Augustinerstraße. Atmospheric lights and creative mulled drinks await you here. Younger guests can look forward to a winter carousel.

You will be greeted by the festively decorated stalls of the “Mainzer WinterZeit” market directly at Mainz main station. A visit to this market is perfect for a stopover before your journey home or the start of a winter stroll through the city. Its central location makes this market the ideal meeting place in Mainz.

“Mainzer WinterZeit” market in the castle courtyard

A very special winter experience awaits you in the atmospheric inner courtyard of the Electoral Palace. Surrounded by historic walls, you can enjoy warming drinks, delicious food and a sparkling carousel for the little ones. The cozy “Lumen Alm” provides a warm break in front of the fireplace. If you like action, you can try your hand at curling.
