Historic Christmas market
Glittering lights in the shadow of the cathedral
The Christmas season in Mainz is so atmospheric: the Mainz Christmas market with its festively decorated stalls shines against the historic backdrop of the 1000-year-old St. Martin’s Cathedral. You will find the romantic Christmas village on Fischtorplatz.
Carousels and handmade toys make children’s hearts beat faster on the cathedral squares.
The eleven-metre-high, richly decorated Christmas pyramid enchants visitors directly at the Höfchen, the main entrance to the market. Just a few steps further on, the hand-carved, life-size nativity figures in front of the Gotthard Chapel of St. Martin’s Cathedral are impressive. At the lower entrance to the market, 18 hand-carved angel figures leisurely make their rounds on the roof of the nine-meter-high music box.
